Hello, my name is Christian. I work with data, a mathematician by training.
Solving (computational) problems is my passion. The first questions in a new project to figure out are " What data is available?" and "Which questions are to be answered by it?" Having fixed those I focus on deeply understanding the problem and the theory behind it. Finally, I design algorithms to compute the solutions from the given data, choosing appropriate methods and tools, to achieve an efficient and robust .
I'm an expert in computational mathematics and numerical analysis (PhD TU Berlin & MSc U Oxford).
My first degree was in engineering (Dipl.Ing. Informatik Ingenieurwesen, TU Hamburg), so I have a general understaning of mechanics, electric networks, thermodynamics, system & control theory.
Previous projects were mainly in engineering (e.g., vibration analysis of windshields, viscosity of oil) and finance (portfolio optimization).
Currently my strongest programming languages are Matlab (20 years experience) and Python/Jupyter/NumPy (2 years). Other languages I've used in one form or another include Java, Fortran, C, Basic.
In my years as a university lecturer I learned to communicate effectively and to explain complicated topics in an understandable manner.
Available for remote work with occasional trips or on-site work in Berlin.
