Service description:
Our client plays a major role in the Belgian and European energy landscape, building sustainable, green and reliable energy infrastructure. The company is seeking freelancers to work remotely and locally on various national and international projects.
The mission consists of:
Elia operates the Belgian high-voltage grid (380–30 kV).
Responsible for grid development, maintenance, access for users, and regulation of energy flows.
Plays a key role in implementing European energy & climate policy.
The Grid Development – Power System Planning (GD/PSP) team defines medium-term transmission grid investments.
Ensures the grid can accommodate future evolutions (renewables, new power plants, changing consumption).
Evaluates connection requests from grid users.
Performs simulations to determine whether firm or flexible contracts can be offered.
Goal of the mission: build an integrated Python-based automation tool to prepare grid simulation models (currently done manually).
The service consists of the following tasks:
Develop a fully industrialized Python tool based on requirements and existing scripts.
Create new Python scripts to automate grid model preparation.
Integrate various simulation-related steps into one automated workflow.
Ensure modularity, adaptability, and scalability of the tool.
Optimize existing Python code and perform profiling.
Implement clear documentation for the developed solution.
Requirements:
6+ years of experience with Python-driven industrial software.
3+ years of Python usage in professional/industrial environments.
Strong Python programming skills (efficient & modular code, large data handling).
Background in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Science.
Excellent English; basic French and/or Dutch.
Experience with profiling and optimization of Python scripts.
Strong code documentation practices.
Knowledge of electricity or electric power systems (grid structure, generation & load localization, load flow, etc.).
Work permit & residence permit required for non-EU candidates working in Belgium.
